Heijermans, Hermann

(1864-1924)
   Dutch playwright and novelist. He was born in Rotterdam. He published short stories, novels and plays. In his play Ahasuerus he expressed concern for the fate of Jewry. His novels Sabbath and Diamanstad and the play Ghetto contrast the narrow-mindedness of the inhabitants of the Amsterdam ghetto with the liberal attitudes of Dutch Christians.
